Peter Farkas. Who is this man?
Farkas, geboren 1966, hat in verschiedenem Gewande in der Kunstwelt agiert. In 1998 gr¸ndetet er zusammen mit Masoud Sadedin das Kunstduo „Nullkunst“, womit die Kunstwelt und Kunst thematisiert wurde. Darauf folgend gr¸ndete er die Kunstgruppe „Kontextgruppe“(2000), eine Gruppe von K¸nstlern, die unter Pseudonymen arbeiteten, dessen alle Farkas waren. Die Gruppe gab ihm Raum, die verschiedenen Aspekte seiner Personalit‰t zu erforschen und in wechselnden Stilen zu arbeiten. Nach einer Ausstellung in einer Galerie in Berlin, wo zwei Mitglieder der Gruppe ausstellten und einer ƒnderung der zeitspezifischen Theorien entschied er, die Gruppe auszulˆsen. Nun arbeitet er unter dem eigenem Namen, Peter Farkas! Aber die Freiheit, Kunst ohne einen vorherrschenden / modischen Stil zu produzieren, hat er beibehalten. Dies macht es schwierig, ein System, das eben auf Stil und Mode basisiert ist zu verstehen, aber dies ist f¸r Farkas nichts Neues und er akzeptiert das Schicksal, das er f¸r sich gew‰hlt hat. Sich immer zwischen Malerei und Skulptur und den L¸cken dazwischen bewegend, produziert er Arbeiten, die nicht auf ƒsthetik fundiert sind, sondern auf die verschiedenen Konzepte der ƒsthetik und seinem persˆnlichen Standpunkt – z.B. sollte Kunst mehr als Dekoration, oder die Verschˆnerung eines Innen-Raums, mehr als eine Illustration eines Konzepts oder einer Theorie sein. Kunst sollte sich konstant neu entdecken und dadurch niemals in die Versuchung kommen, sich zu definieren. Mit einer Vielfalt von Materialien versucht Farkas, in jeder neuen Arbeit dies zu erreichen, mal abstrakt, mal mit Motiv, formt er neue ƒsthetiken – nur um mit der n‰chsten Arbeit dies zunichte zu machen. Dadurch bleibt er sich selbst treu, innovativ und fesselnd.

Who is this man?
Farkas born in 1966 has moved in various guises within the art world. In 1998 he founded the art duo “Nullkunst” together with Masoud Sadedin in which they questioned the working of the art world and art in
general. This led onto him founding in Berlin 2000 the art group “Kontextgruppe”, a group of artists working under pseudonyms, which were in fact all Farkas. The group gave him the space to explore and investigate differing parts of his own character and to express himself in differing mediums and styles. As a reaction to a show in a gallery in Berlin where he presented two of the groups members and the change in times and relevant theories he decided to disband the group. He now works under one name Peter Farkas! But he has maintained the freedom to produce art where there is no binding prevalent style. This makes him somewhat hard for a system based on recognisable styles and signatures to fathom, but Farkas is no stranger to this and accepts the fate he has created for himself. Constantly moving between painting and sculpture and the gaps between or including these, in his art he forms a body of work where the importance does not lie on the aesthetic but on the concepts of aesthetics and his personal beliefs, i.e. art should be more than decoration, more than beautification, more than an illustration of a concept or theory. It should re-discover itself constantly and in so doing never try to define itself. Working with a variety of materials each work from Farkas does this, sometimes abstract sometimes using imagery creating new forms of aesthetics only to negate these with his next picture or object he retains his creativity and remains innovative and enthralling.
