„...The work I'm developing involves an ‚artifical landscape’. I have been thinking about nature especially since I live in a city that is so far removed from it - that nature turns more into an idea or a longing. This longing and this idea is what's interesting to me. Landscape or nature that we tend to imagine in our minds becomes like the perfect place or space... So I started to create some kind of artifical landscape with all its softness and green depth that could be a perfect dreamland but is also somehow ironical. I spend a lot of time studying Baroque ideas about space and their attitude toward nature and gardens. I am also interested in the Medieval views on landscape; the kind of artificial, symbolic flatness in those paintings.
What I actually created is my own ‘landscape’: A mix of cheap children's toytrees combined with bits of dry plants, green astroturf and blue rubberballs became my ‘park’. Hyperartificial on purpose; and using the medium of photography in order to play with depth, color and scale. These simple materials are the base for the ‘wonderwood’ that I am going to print ‘super-enlarged’ (the toy-trees will be a little bigger than life-size) on clear material or mylar in order to cover the entire walls and thus turn the space into a passage of landscape that lays in front of the viewer.“ (Susa Templin)
